Assisted Living South West has stepped-in to secure the local services formally provided by Southern Cross, the national care provider which will cease trading in October.
The future of the Southern Cross homes which cared for people with Learning Disability and other complex needs across Devon, Torquay and Dorset had been in-doubt since the widely published difficulties faced by Southern Cross and its withdrawal from the care sector.
Assisted Living South West had been able to secure the future of the homes and services and took them over on October 1st 2011.
John Fahy, Managing Director of Assisted Living South West, said:
“I am really delighted that we have been able to secure the future of these services so that the residents and clients could stay in their homes and the staff could have security in their jobs.
We had been negotiating with Southern Cross since we became aware of the anxieties of the residents and staff in the homes and we had been able to reach agreement to make sure that the services would carry-on without any upsetting changes for all those involved.
It also means that the services will now be run by local people and the services became part of our small organisation that aims to be close to our residents and staff without the limitations that big national organisations face”
